Women’s rights and re-introduction of the debate to re-open foundling wheels – 1992

In order to prevent infanticide and abandonment, under legislation currently in place in Italy, women can give birth anonymously, give up their child, and receive help and assistance without being convicted. Growing social awareness had led to the re-opening of the debate on how the ancient device could be re-introduced, attracting conflicting opinion and comment. This culminated in the ‘Movement for Life’ of Casale Monferrato asking for the official re-introduction in May 1992.
